Il tuning estetico nelle automobili nasce forse per il desiderio di possedere un auto sportiva, un auto che si distingua dal modello di serie. Come una bella donna, l'auto viene truccata e vestita con nuove parti: Minigonne, alettoni posteriori, spoiler, appendici sottoparaurti anteriori o posteriori e, nei casi più estremi, la sostituzione completa dei paraurti con altri del design più sportivo, l'applicazione di prese d'aria sul cofano e/o sul tettuccio, l'allargamento dei parafanghi o il rimodellamento della carrozzeria al fine di modificare la linea originale del veicolo. Interventi meno invasivi comprendono la riverniciatura parziale o totale del veicolo, l'oscuramento dei cristalli e la sostituzione dei gruppi ottici anteriori e posteriori.
Tali modifiche però sono molto costose e spesso ci si arrangia nei modi piu fantasiosi e bizzarri ed il web si riempie di foto di strani individui che posano accanto alle loro Improbabili ed esilaranti creazioni. Del resto, non è bello ciò che è bello...
